Name: Don Taylor
Stats: b. 1920- d. 1998. 29 films as actor, 11 films as director. Directed TV in the '80s.
Rating based on level of excellence: 3 out of 5 Humunahs!
Hotness Factors: Tall, gentlemanly stature, great hair and sheepish smile. He's the boy next door who looks innocent enough but will steal your hot daughter away when your back is turned.
Chicks He Digged: Married two actresses. First wife was TV actress Philis Avery and second wife was scream queen Hazel Court, who passed away last year.
For Optimal Hotness Watch:
Father of the Bride (1950) ~ He's the lucky kid who gets to marry virginal Elizabeth Taylor (at least on screen).
The Naked City (1948) ~ He plays a detective who scours the city of New York looking for the man who murdered glamour (see my post about the movie here).
Stalag 17 (1953) ~ He's the WWII Lieutenant who managed to blow up a Nazi train with a hand-made bomb. He's the hero of all the men at the POW camp. (see pictures below)

not bad at all, I think I would agree with you on the humunahs. haha
ReplyDeleteAhh...matinee idols.
ReplyDeleteThey don't make them like these anymore (except for Clooney; Clooney is always the exception).
I loved him in Father of The Bride! Definately a "Hot Toddy".
Thanks for bringing him to our attention Raquelle!
=]
I agree on the humunah count and the Hot Toddy award. I remember the first time I connected all three of those terrific films together as being the work of Don Taylor. I was in shock for a short time. Each role is so different from the others, but he's wonderful as each character. Such a terrific actor!
ReplyDeleteHe is quite attractive. I think all hot toddys' (toddies?) must have fantastic Ken Doll hair, though. ;)
ReplyDeleteI can't speak for Taylor's hotness (he's just a guy for me... now his wife Hazel Court was hot...), but he was a heck of a great actor!
ReplyDeleteDon Taylor was one of these white spots on my map... until now...
ReplyDeleteThanks for enlightning me! :)
When I watched The Naked City, I couldn't take my eyes off of him! I had no idea who he was, but I immediately liked him.
ReplyDeleteGoodness, another actor I'm not familiar with!
ReplyDeleteI love this series, though, Raquelle. Very fun and informative! :)
Nicole - I don't even think my pictures do him justice!
ReplyDeleteNik - Father of the Bride was my first of his films. So whenever I spotted him in other movies, I'd always think of him there.
Sarah - Come to think of it, a lot of the screen stars had awesome "Ken" hair. Hmmm...
Mercurie - too true. In celebrating their hotness, I'm also celebrating their acting by recognizing them. Or at least that's what I'm telling myself.
Jonas - We have a symbiotic relationship no? You teach me, I teach you.
Genevieve - He's so likable in Naked City!
Ginger - Thanks. Now I just need to come up with an equivalent name for a female series. Can't think of one though.
Symbiosis is a nice thing! We can be like twins with different mothers! :)
ReplyDeleteI like this feature -- keep it up. Dennis O'Keefe and Mark Stevens should be on your radar.
