Anita Page in Speedway (1929)
Another post, just for fun and Anita Page related. I recently watched Speedway (1929) because I'm on a 1920s/1930s sports movie kick and that particular film is about auto-racing. Anita Page co-stars as a girl who reluctantly falls in love with a goofy auto-racing heir played by William Haines. Anita's outfits were wonderful so I did a series of screen caps. Here are a few. If you want to see the whole lot, check out my photo set on Flickr.

Of the flappers Anita Page was always my fav. Well, besides Louise Brooks!
ReplyDeleteI love her hat in the third photo from the bottom!
ReplyDeleteshe is so adorable in that film! if i recall there was a very funny scene where they're in the car and Haines keeps switching hats between them or something. a very silly film, lots of fun and as i said *big sigh* for adorable Anita ;)
ReplyDeleteGosh, that outfit!!
ReplyDeletePS: I dug out my cloche for the winter, and am wearing it today!
Her outfits are so cute! I love Anita Page - she's my favorite flapper!
ReplyDeleteLove the pics! Haven't seen the film, but would love to
ReplyDeleteI would love to see that movie as well. I love the outfits, all of them. Isn't it a same that people don't wear hats as they used to any more?
ReplyDeleteI wonder why she always looks so worried?
ReplyDeleteYay! Speedway! I haven't seen this film but I want to see it bad! Anita Page looks fantastic in all the pictures! The costume designer David Cox was second only to Adrian at MGM at this time. I guess Cox did most of the casual wear while Adrian did the more lavish looking gowns.
ReplyDeleteIs this film out on DVD? My Dad is a race car driver, so I could see this film as a way to connect our two interests.
ReplyDeleteMercurie/Elizabeth - Anita is your favorite flapper? I think she might be mine too!
ReplyDeleteArtman - The switching hat scene was hilarious!
Sarah - Picture? Please?
Kate - Isn't that hat the bee's knees? I love the swirl pattern.
Amanda - You should! If you have Classicflix it's available for rental and for purchase.
Faye - Hats need to come back! I love them and wear them whenever I can, especially in the winter.
KC - You'll have to watch the movie to find out.
Jonas - Look at you Professor Jonas!
Maggie - Yes it's out on DVD as part of the Warner Archive collection.
Anita was a beautiful woman, and I'm happy she lived to an age where she could see that people still appreciated her work.
ReplyDeleteYes, Cloche hats are wonderful. Love 20s style. Beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely adore Anita Page! She's so wonderful! Also, I really want to see this movie. Anita always wore the cutest outfits in her movies. :)
